This is a portrait of my girlfriend Rietje. She's a professional jazz player.
The painting took me 5 days. 3 for the saxophone, wich was a true pain in the ...
I started in Painter and finished it in Photoshop. For the sax I made a layout drawing of all the bits and pieces in Illustrator with the thing standing next to my monitor. I copied the linedrawing to photoshop and I could use several pieces of it as masks.
For those of you who think the perspective of the sax is off, the beaker bends 10 to 20 degrees to the left.
I did the background last. I like the empty space on the left. Gives it a feeling of isolation and being completely into the music I think.

I wanted to see where I stand with my Illustrator-skills. So this is a bit different from my usual Illustrator work. I use Illustrator mainly for speedy cartoon art.
I used a lot of gradients plus the blending option. I don't feel very comfortable with the Mesh tool. It never does what I want so I didn't use it.
